Wind energy development will play a part in New York's economic future.
That's the message you get from a commercial unveiled yesterdayabout the state's "whole new approach to business. Shots of wind turbines appear twice in the video, right after Robert DeNiro says "innovation."
The ads were launched by the state "to show the nation why New York is the place for businesses to grow, thrive and expand, creating jobs and revenue," according to an Executive Office news release.
In the Watertown area and to a large extend Jefferson, Lewis and even St. Lawrence counties, the big business story is about the influx of dollars from Fort Drum. But wind power development is another area of great potential, and great controversy. They're capable of generating electricity, tax dollars and fierce opposition due to the ill effects that some say they have on the north country's scenic vistas, bird populations and the physical well being of its residents.
