An ambulance call for an unconscious woman at 11:52 p.m. Wednesday prompted a city police investigation and the alleged discovery of heroin in an apartment on Central Street.

Michael J. Moote, 45, of 221 Central St., who called for Guilfoyle Ambulance, and a second woman, June R. Granger, 47, of 177 Palmer St., Apt. A., were arrested on charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of an hypodermic instrument. They were detained for arraignment in City Court.

The unidentified 42-year-old patient was taken to Samaritan Medical Center. Police declined to speculate whether she was the victim of a drug overdose or reaction, but said the investigation is continuing.

Police said they found in Mr. Moote’s apartment a digital scale, a plastic bag containing suspected heroin, a glass pipe, five hypodermic needles and other items used for the manufacture and use of narcotics.

Mr. Moote also has prosecution pending in City Court from an arrest May 16, when he was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, crack cocaine.
