Jeremiah Maxon of the Jefferson County Young Republicans has given up on a debate between GOP congressional candidates Kellie Greene and Matt Doheny, citing an inability to secure a location.

"We understand the Young Republicans Debate was only one of many events clamoring for attention the weekend before the primary in a sprawling district, and that after we were unable to secure a location by our self-imposed deadline, the Doheny for Congress campaign tells me they have hesitantly accepted an invitation at functions on the other side of the district," Mr. Maxon said in an email to the campaigns and to the journalists who had agreed to moderate the debate, including myself.

Mr. Maxon had told the campaigns that he would have a location for the debate by noon Tuesday. When he didn't have a location by noon on Tuesday, the Doheny campaign scheduled appearances elsewhere, the campaign's chief of staff told Mr. Maxon this morning. The North Side Improvement League had agreed to host the debate, but didn't get back to Mr. Maxon until 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

So it looks like there won't be a battle of ideas between Ms. Greene and Mr. Doheny after all.

Mr. Maxon said the group would like to hold a debate for the general election.
