Fr. Francis J. Coryer, 62, died at home June 12, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Johns Church on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. with the Most Reverend Bishop Terry R. LaValley presiding, and the priests of the diocese concelebrating. The homilist will be Rev. Alan D. Shnob, pastor of St. Augustines parish, Peru, NY. Burial will be in St. Peters Cemetery following the liturgy. Calling hours will be Sunday, June 17 at Heald Funeral Home, 48 Court St. Plattsburgh from 4 p.m.-to-7 p.m. Vigil services will be at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Father Coryer was born in Plattsburgh, NY on November 7, 1950 son of the late Francis James and Ellen Greeno Coryer. He attended Beekmantown Central School and St. Johns Academy, graduating in 1967. He completed an A.A. Degree at Clinton Community College in 1971. Father entered Wadhams Hall, and then completed his theological studies at Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora in 1975. He was ordained a priest by Bishop Stanislaus J. Brzana on May 1, 1982 at St. Marys Cathedral.
Fr. Coryer was assigned parochial vicar at St. Patricks, Watertown in 1982, followed by assignments as parochial vicar in Sacred Heart, Massena, St. Bernards, Saranac Lake, Holy Name, Au Sable Forks and then administrator at that same parish, then parochial vicar at St. Augustines, Peru, Notre Dame, Malone, and St. John the Baptist, Keeseville. In 1994, Father was named administrator of St. Henrys in DeKalb Junction and then pastor; following that, pastor of Sacred Heart in Edwards, Church of the Assumption, Redford, St. Patricks, Chateaugay. Fr. Coryer retired from St. Patricks in 2009.
Fr. Coryer is survived by his sister Deborah White, two nephews Frances Coryer III, Michael Coryer and a cousin Dorrine Provost.
In lieu of flowers, Fr. Coryer requested that donations be given to Clinton Community College Foundation.
