A bill passed Thursday by the state Senate would allow military members to be exempt from a 24-hour wait period between receiving a marriage license and becoming married.
The legislation would apply to military members who are scheduled for deployment in less than 30 days. Currently, couples must wait at least 24 hours after getting a marriage license before they may wed.
Among supporters was Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton. The bill must now be approved by the Assembly.
