Town officials expect site work will soon begin on the 394-unit apartment development that Morgan Management wants to build off County Route 202.

Watertown Town Supervisor Joel R. Bartlett said the Pittsford developer can start the project on a 57-acre site any time.

Earlier this month, the project cleared the last major hurdle when the Watertown City School District’s Board of Education voted, 4-3, to give Morgan a tax abatement program.

Previously, the payment-in-lieu-of-tax program was easily approved by the Watertown Town Council, the Jefferson County Legislature and the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency.

The Town Council intends to vote on a resolution next month on setting a public hearing to extend the water and sewer districts for the project.

The council also set a public hearing for June 14 to extend the same water and sewer districts for another apartment complex project. Site work has already begun on a 296-unit Beaver Meadow Apartments being built behind the Target store on Route 3 by COR Development Co., Fayetteville.
