Republican Matt Doheny is set to run on the Independence Party line against Rep. Bill Owens on Nov. 6 after a challenge to his petitions was deemed insufficient.
A Board of Elections' hearing officer ruled today that 85 of the Indy signatures were invalid, but that was nowhere near enough to get Mr. Doheny off the party's line.
The Board of Elections commissioners will vote tomorrow to accept or reject those findings, the Doheny campaign says.
Mr. Owens, D-Plattsburgh, will have to fend off a court challenge to his Working Families Party petitions.
