Congressional candidate Matt Doheny coulda been a is a contender.
That's according to the National Republican Congressional Committee's Young Guns program, the GOP's House candidate recruitment effort.
“We are looking forward to working with Matt Doheny, who has already proven himself by meeting rigorous benchmarks in the ‘Young Guns’ program that will position his campaign for victory,” Rep. Pete Sessions, R-Texas, said in a news release.
Candidates can move their way up the Young Guns program by meeting fundraising goals and other organizational benchmarks.
Mr. Doheny was previously "on the radar" in the program, but he's moved up to the top-notch "contender" status. He also went through the program in 2010 when he lost to Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsburgh.
Mr. Doheny, a Watertown financial portfolio manager, will face Kellie Greene in a June 26 Republican primary. With the Young Guns status, it's clear which candidate has the GOP establishment cred.
