Greene raises $2,795

Kellie Greene, the dark horse candidate in the race for the Republican nomination for Congress, raised $2,795 from individuals in the first quarter of 2012, her campaign finance reports show.

She also spent $750 of her own money.

That's a pretty paltry sum compared to what her rivals have raised — in the neighborhood of $300,000.

In a statement on her campaign website, she accused her opponent, Matt Doheny, of taking money from "Wall Street cronies and D.C. insiders."

“Honestly, we have not been obsessed with fundraising,” she said. “The citizens of this district are hurting financially and their sacrifice to my campaign is far greater than any of the big money flowing to my opponent from his Wall Street cronies and D.C. insiders. This race is not about who can raise the most money and buy the most endorsements, it's about who will represent the people of New York 21."

Mr. Doheny raised more than $300,000 in the last quarter of 2011; the most of that money was from donors who gave the maximum amount allowed by law, and from donors who didn't live within the district.

The accusation that Mr. Doheny is "buying" endorsements stems, in part, from the fact that Mr. Doheny has donated his personal funds to many candidates and parties in the north country and in New York state. The Doheny campaign scoffs at the idea that they're buying off endorsements.

In her statement, Ms. Greene was confident that she would submit the required number of signatures to get on the Republican ballot.
