The recently approved state budget will increase its funding of programs to help military members suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
Jefferson County is set to receive $200,000 for a peer program through which multiple armed forces members who are suffering from PTSD will go through a joint mentoring program.
Both state Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, and Assemblyman Kenneth D. Blankenbush, R-Black River, a Vietnam War veteran, praised the legislation.
The state will also pay $500,000 to help expand a program that trains medical professionals.
