The Watertown Daily Times will close its Washington, D.C., bureau March 30.
The bureau, which was created in 1950, has been staffed by Marc Heller since 1997 and previously was staffed by the late Alan S. Emory.
We have always been the smallest newspaper in the U.S. to have a Washington bureau and we have managed to keep ours open longer than most newspaper chains during the economic downturn of the last few years, Times Managing Editor Robert D. Gorman said. Marc served all of our papers in New York, and like Alan before him was frequently cited for his work, particularly covering agriculture and military issues. Our readers have been well served by our bureau.
