David Kimmel, a Clinton County resident, on March 6 will announce his intentions to run for state Assembly.
He becomes the second person to step up and challenge Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, R-Peru, who is persona non grata in the Conservative Party and among many conservative activists because of her vote to approve gay marriage.
Ms. Duprey easily dispatched of Mr. Kimmel and a Democratic opponent in 2010 when he was on the Conservative Party line.
Karen Bisso, a Plattsburgh teacher and former Doug Hoffman volunteer, has also said she wants to get in the race.
Mr. Kimmel will make the announcement at 13 Latour Ave., Plattsburgh, starting at 7 p.m.
Ms. Duprey only garnered 6 percent of a Upstate New York Tea Party straw poll last week. Mrs. Bisso got 78 percent, and Mr. Kimmel, who hadn't announced yet, got 16 percent.
The district, which covers Franklin and Clinton counties, could stretch into St. Lawrence County after redistricting is said and done.
