An 83-year-old woman was hospitalized after she was struck in the face by her son, Watertown police allege.
Police on Monday arrested Shawn C. Gallagher, 54, of 416 Pawling St., on a felony charge of second-degree assault. He was released on $200 bail by Watertown City Judge Eugene R. Renzi to await grand jury action.
Police said his mother, Sally A. Gallagher, same address, suffered a large bruise on her face as a result of the alleged assault on Jan. 17. She was admitted to Samaritan Medical Center, where hospital patient services and the adult protective services unit of the Jefferson County Department of Social Services initiated an investigation.
Police said Mrs. Gallagher was interviewed at the hospital and told personnel that her son struck her.
