As Thomas Kaplan of the New York Times notes in a Twitter post, the state Senate will add a 63rd Senate seat, according to the group drawing up the lines.
Here is the website, which reads: "Based on the formula and analysis of the 2010 census data, the size of the Senate will increase by 1 seat to 63."
Senate Democrats are sure to howl at this revelation, which they'll call unconstitutional.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said that he will veto LATFOR's lines no matter what, and said so again in his message to legislators on Wednesday. But there is some speculation about whether he'll go through with a veto, which would be messy.
Here was my take on it when the idea was first floated a few months ago in the New York Daily News.
Basically, my conclusion was that this would not only be good for the Senate GOP if they could get the seat somewhere friendly, but it would also help folks like Sens. Patty Ritchie and Joe Griffo, whose districts wouldn't have to grow as large because you're dividing the population by 63, instead of 62.
