Councilman Jeff Smith has rented the giant billboard on Arsenal Street in his effort to unseat Mayor Jeff Graham in the Nov. 8 race.

In an ultra-local race like this, billboards are like TV ads and yard signs are like opinion polls. With two weeks to go, this is a big buy for Mr. Smith, and it's been anticipated for some time.

What's really interesting about this is the billboard casts a shadow on Pete's, Mr. Graham's stomping ground where he eats an estimated five meals a week. Right in his opponent's back yard, on a heavily-trafficked thoroughfare.
