The St. Petersburg Times — of Florida — is reporting that a county commissioner down there wants to run for the north country's congressional seat.

Jeff Stabins grew up in Watertown, so that makes the 1,300 mile trip not all that difficult to fathom.

But Mr. Stabins, a Republican, seems to have a colorful side to his personality, according to the St. Petersburg Times piece.

I don't think I could say it better than the writer, Barbara Behrendt, did, so I'll just quote her: "He has been known to break into song at board meetings or simply get up and wander the room; he has tried unsuccessfully to get his own show on Government Broadcasting; and he pulled a stunt that had some in the audience at a board meeting believing a cryptic note he sent explaining his absence meant that he had harmed himself. He later apologized."

"My dream as a boy growing up in Watertown was to one day be elected a Republican congressman serving in Washington D.C.,'' Mr. Stabins said, according to the report.

Trying to reach out to him now. If he got into the race, he'd have to beat Republican Matt Doheny in a primary to take on Rep. Bill Owens, D-Plattsubrgh (insert redistricting caveat here).

According to his Facebook page, Mr. Stabins' favorite quotation is: "I stink; therefore I am."

So there you go.
