ALBANY — Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed legislation Tuesday to implement the NYSUNY 2020 Challenge Grant Program and institute a rational tuition plan for the 64-campus SUNY system.

The legislation, which was passed in the state Senate and Assembly in late June, will create a $140 million grant program to promote long-term, individualized economic development plans at the various SUNY campuses. The legislation also will enact a rational tuition policy that allows each SUNY school to raise tuition (now set at $4,970 per year) by $300 annually for the next five years.
