Brasher Falls native Derek Lalonde, who was one of the candidates for the Clarkson University men's hockey head coach position, has been chosen to be the head coach of the U.S. Hockey League's Green Bay Gamblers, according to the Denver Post and Green Bay Press Gazette.

Lalonde, a former goalie for St. Lawrence Central and SUNY Cortland, has been an assistant coach at the University of Denver for the past five seasons.

Green Bay has been without a coach since Eric Rud left to take a position as an assistant at Colorado College.

The U.S. Hockey League is the top junior hockey league in the country and sends several of its alumni to NCAA Division I schools.

This will be the first head coaching job for Lalonde, who spent four years as an assistant at Ferris State prior to his stint in Denver.
