A Clayton man injured in an accident in which a Dexter couple was killed has filed a negligence suit against the couple's estate over his injuries.

Peter B. Orvis filed state Supreme Court action Thursday at the Jefferson County clerk's office against county Treasurer Nancy D. Brown, who has been appointed administrator of the estate of Albert C. and Carol A. Jackson.

The suit stems from a May 21 accident at Route 180 and County Route 3 in the town of Orleans in which Mr. Jackson, 58, and Mrs. Jackson, 54, were killed and Mr. Orvis suffered serious injuries.

According to court documents, Mr. Orvis was traveling north on Route 180 past its intersection with County Route 3 when Mr. Jackson, who with his wife as a passenger was traveling west on County Route 3, allegedly passed through a stop sign without stopping. Mr. Jackson's 1992 Plymouth Caravan collided with Mr. Orvis's 2001 Isuzu Rodeo.

Mr. Orvis contends Mr. Jackson was negligent by, among other things, failing to stop at the sign and failing to yield the right of way to his vehicle. He claims he suffered spinal injuries, as well as trauma to his head, neck, back, shoulder, abdomen, arms and hands.

He maintains the injuries caused him to undergo medical care and treatment, as well as pain and suffering, and rendered him unable to work. His wife, Julie L., also is named as a plaintiff because of the alleged effects his injuries had on her.

The suit does not specify an amount sought in damages. Mr. Orvis is represented in his action by Gouverneur attorney Robert G. Raymond.
