Heuvelton
Receives campership:The St. Lawrence County American Association of University Women recently sponsored a campership forAlexis Weidner,an eighth-grade student at Heuvelton Central School, at the state Department of Environmental Conservation's Environmental Education Summer Camp.
The local AAUW's "Open Windows for Girls" program provides camperships to St. Lawrence County girls to attend summer enrichment programs. For more information on "Open Windows for Girls," contact Faye White at 393-2215 or whitefw@twcny.rr.com.

Potsdam
Service honored:The New York State Retired Teachers' Association recently presented past presidentGlenn W. Clarkwiththe Chevalier of the Legion of Merit of France, the highest award given by France, at the association's 59th annual convention. The title is awarded for contribution to the liberation of France during World War II.
Mr. Clark is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He participated in five European campaigns and was awarded the Bronze Star for service in Europe. Following his service in Korea, he received the Army Commendation Medal, and in 1986, was awarded the Conspicuous Service Cross, the state's highest military honor.
Mr. Clark, a native of Potsdam, resides in Oswego. Mr. Clark retired as Fulton School superintendent in 1976, after 35 years in education in Central and Northern New York, including as a teacher in Chateaugay and Conifer and as chief school officer in Conifer and Waddington.
He is a past president of NYSRTA, chairman of Greater Fulton United Way, a hospital volunteer, and a board member of Oswego County and Fulton historical societies. He also serves on the Residents Council of Bishop's Commons, Oswego.

Announces winners: The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerceannounced winners of the 2009 Citizen of the Year, Outstanding Community Service and Chamber's Business Improvement Awards:
Keith Robinsonreceived theCitizen of the Year Awardfor his community service.Active with the Boy Scouts for more than 50 years, Mr. Robinson achieved the Silver Bear Award, the highest award given to adults involved in scouting. He has been a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ogdensburg for more than 40 years, where he has been a director for more than 15 years. He has been involved with the Kiwanis Baseball program for more than 50 years, the last 10 of which he is manager of the concession stand. Mr. Robinson was a commissioner of the Youth Services committee that oversaw Kiwanis youth sports and prior, was a coach. He has been involved with Pee Wee Football League since it started in the late 1990s. Mr. Robinson is a World War II veteran and a member of First Baptist Church.
The Ogdensburg Garden Clubreceived theOutstanding Community Service Awardfor more than 80 years of work to create and maintain the city's gardens. The Agarwal Garden, Mirror Gardens in Library Park, geranium beds in front of the library, Arterial Garden near United Helpers as well as the hanging flower baskets throughout downtown Ogdensburg and the gazebo in Library Park are examples of the club's work. The club also oversees the children's garden at Remington's Kids Place.
Lynn and David Blevinsreceived theChamber's Business Improvement Awardfor their purchase and renovation of 202-206 Ford St. The brothers have converted the first two floors, which have been leased to the Department of Motor Vehicles, Probation Department, St. Lawrence County Health Department, Children's Services and Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. Following completion of renovations by next June, the Seaway Valley Council for Alcohol/Substance Abuse Prevention will move to offices on the third floor.

Oct. 14:Helen Keohane and Veronica Jeffers in first place; second and third places were shared by pairs Bobbe Katzman and Gloria Rothschild with the Rev. Leo Wiley and Charles Evans.
Oct. 16:Charles Evans and Emmeline Morris were in first place; Helen Keohane and Ada Jane Northrop were in second, and tied for third and fourth places were Joan Peterson and Bobbe Katzman with Ron Cooper and Kay Woodruff.
Oct. 19:Ron Cooper and Kay Woodruff took first place; and Helen Keohane and Emmeline Morris tied Gloria Rothschild and Mai Liinve for second and third places.
Oct. 21:Helen Keohane and Alice LeRoy in first place; Debra Suller and Ann Sellers in second place; and there was a three-way tie for third, fourth and fifth places by Veronica Jeffers and Mai Liinve, Judy Vespa and Carol Cooper, and the Rev. Leo Wiley and Sally Helmerci.

Waddington
Graduates basic training: Ryan A. Dunn,19, graduated Aug. 14 from basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., as part of the 1/30 3rd Platoon Alpha Company. He is serving as an honor guard, stationed at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Dunn is a 2008 graduate of Madrid-Waddington Central School, Madrid, where he played basketball and baseball. He is the son of Gregory S. Dunn, Waddington, and son and stepson of Truman and Angela Swinyer, Norwood. He is the grandson of Ronald and Roxanne Dunn, South Colton, and David and Donna Mattice, Morely, and the great-grandson of Elmer and Norreen Votra, Canton.

Sackets Harbor
Accepts command: Col. Dana M. Capozzellarecently assumed command of the Colorado Army National Guard from Brigadier Gen. Thomas Mills in a ceremony officiated by Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter and Major Gen. Michael Edwards. She moved to Colorado, Dana Capozzella is the first female commander in the position in Colorado.
Col. Capozzella graduated in 1983 from Sackets Harbor Central School. She was a 1987 ROTC graduate of St. Lawrence University, Canton, with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and has a master's degree in strategic studies from the Army War College, Washington, D.C.
Her awards include a Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and Army Parachutist Badge.
Col. Capozzella is married and lives with her husband of 22 years, Robert Utter, and their three children in Woodland Park, Colo.
She is the daughter of former Sackets Harbor Mayor Vincent Capozzella and his wife, Barbara.
