Police investigate assault of Watertown resident

Watertown police are investigating the assault of a city man early Saturday in the 600 block of Mill Street.

The victim, Edward A. Ward, 31, of 650 Burlington St., was conscious on the street when patrols arrived at the scene at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. Frank J. Derrigo. Having suffered cuts and nose injuries, Mr. Ward was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, where he was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

No arrests have been made. Lt. Derrigo said there were witnesses, but their statements gave conflicting information. Interviews are being continued, he said.
