PHILADELPHIA — Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Horton, Route 29, observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 14.
Mr. Horton, son of the late Niles and Ida Mae Walrath Horton, married Cheryl K. Sharpe, daughter of Olive Andrew Sharpe and the late Grant S. Sharpe, Oct. 14, 1959, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Evans Mills, with the Rev. Herbert K. Lodder officiating.
Mr. Horton was employed by Leon Wenk and George Cook farms and Ernie Gardner, working on Patz farm equipment prior to purchasing the former Harford and Mary Kavanaugh farm, Camp Drum Road, in May 1964. Mr. and Mrs. Horton operate the farm today with their son, Randy C. Horton.
Mr. Horton is an active member of the Farm Bureau and Holstein Association and the Fellowship of Christian Farmers. He has been director of Jefferson County Dairy One Board since the 1970s.
Mrs. Horton was employed at Acme Market and Kinney Drugs and ran an egg delivery route in Watertown and Philadelphia for 10 years. She operated a Successful Living Books distributorship and was site manager for Milltown Housing, Evans Mills, for 11 years. Mrs. Horton has been Philadelphia town supervisor since 1996. She has been active with Women's Aglow Fellowship International for approximately 20 years as a local and Northern New York area president.
They have two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy and Elaine Horton, Philadelphia, and Mark Horton, Fort Plain, a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Kevin Culbertson, Philadelphia, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
They plan to celebrate with an open house Nov. 14 at the Philadelphia Fire Hall.
