3rd BCT sergeant is killed in Afghanistan bomb attack

A 3rd Brigade Combat Team soldier deployed to Afghanistan was killed Monday in a roadside bomb attack.

Sgt. Terry J. Lynch, 22, died from injuries he suffered in the attack in Wardak Province. Sgt. Lynch was from Shepherd, Mont., and was a cavalry scout with the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment.

He deployed in January with the brigade to Afghanistan and is the eighth soldier with the brigade to die in combat.

He joined the Army in July 2005 and came to Fort Drum in November 2005. This was his second deployment to Afghan-istan with the 3rd Brigade. He is survived by his father.

His awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
