Christmas Clearinghouse applications are due Friday.

The program was designed as a collaborative effort of human services agencies, businesses and civic organizations in Jefferson County to ensure no families have to go without a holiday meal or presents for their children.

The number of applicants seems to be down compared with those who applied last year, said Sherry Rafferty, Community Action Planning Council family center associate.

"I think we're missing a lot of people out there," Ms. Rafferty said. "I don't know if everyone waited to turn their calendar or what."

Applications for the program will be accepted at the following remaining locations until Friday:

■ Adams: Rohde Center, Main Street. Applications will be taken from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

■ Antwerp: Applications will be taken by calling Elizabeth Lynch at 659-8656.

■ Carthage: Applications will be taken by calling Joyce Miller at 493-1341.

■ Clayton: Call Candie Pecor at 686-2212. Applications will be taken by telephone only.

■ Depauville: A New Life Church, Route 12. Applications will be taken at the church, or by calling 686-0227.

■ Philadelphia: Indian River Baptist Church, Main Street. Applications will be taken from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

■ Watertown: Salvation Army, State Street. Applications will be taken from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to Friday.
