The city of Watertown and Watertown Police Department honored Shirley J. Irvine at a ceremony Tuesday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building for her 30 years of service as a crossing guard.

Mrs. Irvine began as a crossing guard in 1978 at the intersection of Mill and East Hoard streets. After a few different assignments, she landed at East Hoard and Lansing streets and has been there for the last decade.
