CLAYTON — Mary Lou Rusho, 73, Sanford, Fla., a summer resident of Grindstone Island, died Sunday at Hospice of the Comforter, Altamonte Springs, Fla.

She was a retired Seminole County, Fla., elementary school teacher, who was active in the Seminole County Teachers Union and Retired Teachers Union. Born June 7, 1935, in Clayton, daughter of Clarence W. Nunn and Marion C. Hibbard Nunn Kring, she graduated from Clayton Central School in 1953 and from Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla., in May 1974.

She married Manley Leon Rusho in March 1955 at Clayton Methodist Church with the Rev. Solomon A. Card Jr. officiating. The couple lived in Alexandria Bay before moving to Sanford in 1969. After retiring, Mr. and Mrs. Rusho spent summers on Grindstone Island and winters in Sanford. They had been restoring a schoolhouse, which was built in 1880, on their Grindstone Island property for the past several summers.

Mrs. Rusho was a member of Upsala Community Church, Sanford, and played the church organ on Sundays during the summers at Grindstone Island United Methodist Church. She was an active volunteer in both communities and enjoyed teaching, music, traveling, baking and chocolate. She was adventurous, led an active social life and greatly enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music.

Surviving besides her husband are four daughters and their husbands, Susan and Andrew Greenberg, Apopka, Fla., Sheri and Dan Mokris, Warner Robins, Ga., Cindy and Jon Hagemann, Camden, N.C., and Cathy and Rick Sierra, Altamonte Springs; a brother, Edward C. Nunn, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., 13 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A brother, Kenneth G. Nunn, died before her.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Upsala Community Church. A service also will be held next summer on Grindstone Island. Arrangements were with Gramkow Funeral Home and Crematory, Sanford, Fla. In place of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Comforter, 480 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, Fla.; Grindstone Island United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 411, Clayton, N.Y. 13624, or Thousand Islands Foundation, Grindstone Island Scholarship Fund, 220 Cartier Ave., Clayton.
