POTSDAM — A memorial service for James W. Wagner, 62, of 9 Chestnut St., will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Christopher A. Brown officiating.

Mr. Wagner died of cancer Saturday at his home.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday at the family home. Arrangements are with Garner Funeral Home.

Mr. Wagner and his wife, Jane, opened Village Wines & Liquors in 2007.

Born Sept. 5, 1946, in Oshkosh, Wis., he received a bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia, Athens, and a master's degree in human behavior at San Diego (Calif.) State University.

He served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1972.

He married Jane Garland on Oct. 14, 2006, at the Brambles Inn. A previous marriage ended in divorce.

He had lived in Arizona and California for many years before moving to Potsdam in September 2001. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Andy, San Diego, Calif., and Dan and Kathy, Phoenix, Ariz.; two stepddaughters, Jessie and Nora Bradford, Potsdam, and a granddaughter.

A daughter, Megan Wagner, died before him.
