DEPAUVILLE — Keith L. Haas, 86, died Thursday at his home, where he had been under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Mr. Haas and his wife owned and operated a dairy farm on County Route 179, Depauville-Chaumont Road, for 30 years. He also worked in reforestation and construction, retiring in 1977.

Born Dec. 24, 1921, in Brownville, son of Elmer and Iva Burgen Haas, he attended LaFargeville School and graduated from Molnor College in Canada.

He served in the Army during World War II, seeing duty in Alaska.

He married Elizabeth J. Moser on Oct. 31, 1941, at Natural Bridge, with the Rev. Albert W. Walker officiating. The couple spent 25 winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. Mrs. Haas died March 18.

Mr. Haas was a lifetime member of the Northern New York Agricultural Historical Society, Stone Mills, and former member of Depauville Grange, Odd Fellows, Masonic Lodge and Zephyrhills Shuffleboard Club.

He was an active shuffler and loved playing cards and traveling.

Surviving are a son and two daughters-in-law, Chris E. and Cheryl Haas, Anchorage, Alaska, and Frances M. Haas, Depauville; a daughter, Keitha A. Huchzermeier, and her companion, Dennis Tousley, Depauville; a sister, Evelyn Charlebois, Oswego; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A son, John F., and three brothers, his twin, Kent, Wilson "Giggs" and Elmereen W. "Buster," died before him.

A spring graveside service will be at the family's convenience in Depauville Memorial Cemetery.
