Nov. 28, 1983:Residents of Parish, an Oswego County community of 600, are still reeling from the shock of a Sunday morning fire that destroyed three businesses on East Main Street, the bulk of the village's downtown section. A grocery store, a variety store, an oil company office and three apartments above the businesses were involved in the fire that "pretty much destroyed the better part of downtown," according to a tired and saddened Fire Chief Kenneth C. Henderson.

Nov. 28, 1958:Two giant utilities competing for the natural gas franchise in the north country will resume their legal battle before the Public Service Commission in Albany on Dec. 9. The Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. and the Consumers Gas Co. of Toronto, through its wholly owned subsidiary, the St. Lawrence Gas Co. of Ogdensburg, both want to serve the St. Lawrence valley area.

Nov. 28, 1933:Watertown has a population of 34,812, according to an estimate made from the 1934 edition of Kimball's city directory, released this morning. This is an increase over the 1930 federal census, which listed the population as 32,205. Besides the alphabetical listing of the residents, there is a street directory and a classified business directory. In the front is a geographical, statistical and historical summary of the city.

Nov. 28, 1908:The New York Engine Co. announced that the building of patterns to be used in the construction of gas engines and gas producers started at the Watertown Engine Co. Three months will be required to make the patterns. Then the building of the engines and producers will commence, and the industry will take on a new lease of life. The incorporation of the new company was due directly to the failure of a big gas engine installed two years ago at the New York Air Brake Co.

Nov. 28, 1883:The supervisors smoked a box of cigars from the Antwerp Gazette last evening, and this morning visited the orphans' home, where they found everything in apple-pie order, and gladdened the hearts of the little ones with many presents.
