Watertown resident cited
with theft, sale of siding
Harold E. Pearson Jr., 32, of 205 N. Orchard St., Apt. 2, was jailed Tuesday on a felony charge of third-degree grand larceny.
He was arrested by Watertown police on a Jefferson County Sheriff's Department warrant, and was arraigned before town of Watertown Justice James P. McClusky, who set bail at $500. He was placed in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.
According to documents filed with the court, Mr. Pearson is accused of removing aluminum siding from a trailer in which he was living on Wilton Road in the town of Rutland, and of selling it for scrap. This occurred in late August or early September on property he was to buy on a land contract from Keith F. Trembley, but for which he had not made any payments, the documents allege.
The value of the siding was set at $7,550.
Theresa trailer damaged
by spreading chimney fire
THERESA — A chimney fire Tuesday afternoon moved into a wall and the roof of a single-wide trailer, extensively damaging the living room area of the uninsured structure at 34917 Countryman Road.
Donna Gilbert and one of her two adult sons, who live with her, were home when the chimney fire was discovered shortly after 5 p.m. By the time Theresa, Evans Mills, LaFargeville and Pamelia firefighters reached the scene, flames were in a rear wall and working up into the ceiling, said Glenn W. Morrison, Jefferson County director of fire and emergency management.
He credited firefighters with making an "excellent hit" to stop the spread of the blaze.
No injuries were reported.
David Gosier, a deputy fire zone coordinator, said the fire originated around the flue behind a wood-burning stove.
Teen is accused of being
abusive, resisting arrest
BLACK RIVER — A 16-year-old girl was arrested by state police Monday evening on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest at a residence in Black River where police said she is a foster child.
Heidi M. Gaines is accused of directing abusive and profane language at residents of the house at 105 W. Remington St., and at troopers. As she was being handcuffed, she tried to pull away from troopers several times, police said.
She was arraigned in town of LeRay Court and was released without bail.
Man accused of entering
shed, stealing tires, rims
State police arrested an Evans Mills man Sunday in connection with an alleged intrusion at a shed in the town of Denmark.
Loren N. Woodard, 27, of 30791 Elm Ridge Road, is charged with third-degree burglary. Police accused him of stealing four tires and rims Saturday from a shed that was forcibly entered at the residence of Todd and April Larock, 11593 Zecher Road.
He was arraigned in town of Denmark Court, where bail was set at $5,000. He was sent to Lewis County jail, Lowville.
Police say woman opened
another's mail, took DVD
LOWVILLE — Village police on Monday charged Mary R. Tebo, 22, Park Avenue, with tampering with private communications and petit larceny.
Ms. Tebo on Oct. 10 allegedly opened the mail of another person, whom police did not identify, and took a DVD from it. She is to appear in Village Court.
