Police arrest Dexter man

who went for dip Sunday

DEXTER — The man who took a dip late Sunday night in the Black River here, prompting a search, was jailed Tuesday night under $5,000 bail.

Scott R. Seiter, 30, of 600 William St., was arraigned before Village Justice Melba J. Ellingsworth on second and third-degree counts of attempted burglary, and on a charge of second-degree reckless endangerment. He was placed in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown.

Details about the charges were not available Tuesday night from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, but deputies confirmed he was the man who left a village tavern, entered the river and subsequently went home. People who saw him go into the water did not see him emerge, and notified authorities.

A search was conducted Sunday night and again Monday morning, then was ended at noon Monday after Mr. Seiter notified the sheriff's office that he was the swimmer.

Norfolk man is charged

over accident on Oct. 26

State police have charged a Norfolk man with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident that involved his motor home the evening of Oct. 26 on Route 11 in the town of LeRay.

Ernest J. McGregor, 63, also is cited with having unsecured safety tow chains.

Police said he was driving north on Route 11 and was towing a dolly. Because of rust, the dolly was not securely attached to the motor home and broke free, police said. It was struck by another northbound auto, driven by Tonya House-Baillargeon, 31, Antwerp, police said.

Mr. McGregor initially stopped following the 6:45 p.m. accident, but then drove off, police said.

Ms. House-Baillargeon suffered a neck injury and was treated at Samaritan Medical Center.
