I read with interest the article about the Development Authority of the North Country (DANC) and the production of electricity from the production of methane gas. One thing is certain, the garbage is never going to go away and neither will the methane gas. One well-known fact: the wind does not blow 24 hours a day, but the methane gas is produced 100 percent of the time. I'm sure the landfills will receive tax incentives to utilize this gas and that tax money will stay right here.
We all complain about our jobs being outsourced to other countries. Well guess what, your tax dollar is being outsourced to these foreign countries for the windmills. National Grid is an English company and how many other countries own us?
Our beautiful area is being destroyed by these windmills, our health will be affected, and there will be factors appearing in the future that we did not know about or were not informed. A quote by Dr. Brian L. Horejsi: "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is not freedom and it is not democracy; it is vandalism and oppression in the name of commercialism."
Farming is the biggest industry being subsidized by the government. Now much of the farmland is being used for windmills and the owners are being paid thousands of dollars for each windmill on their land. State Sen. Darrel Aubertine and some of his family have land on which windmills will be placed. He is also on the Energy Commission for New York State.
Darrel Aubertine voted for tax credits for the people who will have windmills on their land. This is a conflict of interest and also what is called double dipping. The only honest double dipping is two scoops of ice cream.
