Two Fort Drum soldiers have been arrested in connection with an alleged strong-arm robbery at 9:15 p.m. Saturday outside the KeyBank branch on outer Arsenal Street in Watertown.
Jefferson County sheriff's deputies charged David Bradford III, 20, and Jonathan F. Crays, 19, both of 10110 N. Riva Ridge Loop, Fort Drum, with third-degree robbery. Mr. Bradford additionally was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
Mr. Bradford and Mr. Crays were arraigned before Watertown Town Justice James P. McClusky and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $25,000 bail each.
The two men both are assigned to the 189th Cavalry at Fort Drum, deputies said.
Deputies allege that a black man attacked an unidentified employee of Dakota Watch Co., Salmon Run Mall, when she was making a night deposit at the bank branch. The suspect shoved the woman and ran off with the deposit bag, then he and a white man left the scene in a vehicle, deputies said.
Mr. Bradford is black, while Mr. Crays is white.
No injuries were reported.
Witnesses in the parking lot and a patron of nearby Ramada Inn observed "key elements of the incident," and provided a description of the getaway vehicle, according to a Sheriff's Department release.
A Watertown police officer found the vehicle about 10 p.m. at Huntington Heights apartment complex, and deputies, with assistance from city police, were able to positively identify the two suspects.
All of the money taken in the robbery has been recovered, deputies said. They did not specify the amount.
State police also assisted in the investigation.
