I am writing to challenge the stores in the Watertown and Carthage areas to create more seating throughout the store for the elderly and customers with mobility issues. With the population growing older and increasing numbers of people who have problems walking great distances, these new supersize big box retailers are difficult to near impossible for patrons to traverse.
Stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl's, Lowe's, Home Depot, all grocery stores (P&C, Price Chopper, Hannaford) drug stores (Kinney, Rite Aid and Walgreens). Not to mention the mall.
All these businesses need seating throughout the stores, not to mention seating outside the entrances of these stores. The stores are losing potential customers.
Besides the seating, the stores could increase the number of motorized shopping carts available to customers.
Although the stores say they are in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, I believe it would be good customer service to provide adequate seating throughout the stores along with ample motorized shopping carts available.
Who will step up first and provide the best shopping experience for customers of all ages and abilities? Who will show they value all customers?
