HOGANSBURG — A special election will take place Aug. 23 to pick a sub-chief, the Elections Board of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe announced last week.

Joseph L. Phillips ran unopposed for sub-chief in the June 7 election, but he declined the position. He has not given a reason.

The election will take place in the Tribal Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
