Drum troops in Baghdad are given combat patches
THURSDAY, JULY 10, 2008

FORT DRUM — A patch ceremony was held July 4 at Camp Victory in Baghdad, Iraq, for the soldiers with the 10th Mountain Division headquarters. The soldiers were each given a combat patch to signify service in a combat zone for their current tour of duty.

The 10th Mountain Division took over Multi-National Division-Center at the beginning of June, and for some of the soldiers this was the first combat patch they had received. For others, this was one of several.

At the same ceremony, Maj. Gen. Michael J. Oates, division commander, placed a combat ribbon with the 10th Mountain Division flag symbolizing the headquarters' last deployment to Afghanistan in 2006. Maj. Gen. Oates received his first combat patch associated with the division at the ceremony.
