OGDENSBURG — Kathleen M. Liebler, 76, resident of St. Joseph's Nursing Home, formerly of Heuvelton, died Tuesday at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Liebler was an internationally recognized breeder of Golden Retrievers and her kennel, Valhalla Farms, produced many champions, including a best of breed winner at Westminster Kennel Club Show, New York City. She also was a supervisor for puppy raisers at Guiding Eyes for the Blind, headquarters in Yorktown Heights, retiring in 1994. She moved to DeKalb Junction and then Heuvelton, teaching dog obedience and agility as well as pursuing obedience and field training with her own dogs.

Born Oct. 14, 1931, in Yorkshire, England, daughter of Henry and Ellen Gallagher, she graduated from high school in England. She moved to the States as a young woman and resided for several decades in Kent Cliffs.

She married Lawrence Liebler on Oct. 24, 1964, in Yorktown. Mr. Liebler died in 1987.

Mrs. Liebler was a member of St. Raphael's parish, Heuvelton, where she was a lector and Eucharistic minister. She volunteered at St. Vincent dePaul, Ogdensburg, and was a reader for the visually impaired over North Country Public Radio. Mrs. Liebler enjoyed her dogs, her friends in both the U.S. and England and spending time on Joe Indian Lake.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, John and Deborah, Medina, Ohio, and James and Ann Marie, Carmel; two daughters and their husbands, Jayne and Robert Guthrie, Furlong, Pa., and Patricia and Herman Bechtler III, Cape Mae, N.J.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bernard and Sylvia Gallagher, England, and David Gallagher, Scotland; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A son, Robert, a daughter, Nancy Weirauch, and a brother, Maurice Gallagher, died before her.

A memorial Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. July 12 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church, Heuvelton, with the Rev. Jay Seymour officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Fox-McLellan Funeral Home.
