CARTHAGE — William D. Tracey, 84, of 229 N. School St., died Wednesday morning, at Country Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he was a resident since April 2007.
Mr. Tracey was employed from 1943 to 1952 and 1954 to 1963 for Endicott Johnson Corp., Auburn, Carthage and Watertown. In 1952, he was employed for Sears and was a mail carrier for the post office in Phoenix, Ariz.
From 1963 to 1966 he was employed for Burns Express, Watertown, from 1966 to 1971 for Hurd Shoes, and from 1971 until retirement in 1986 for Consolidated Freightways, Syracuse and Watertown. He later was employed part-time for Walsh Trucking, Watertown.
Born April 23, 1924, in Syracuse, son of Donald and Josephine Somers Tracey, he graduated from Onondaga Valley Academy, Syracuse.
He married Margaret M. Brenon on Jan. 24, 1948, at St. James Church with the Rev. Alfred D'Angelo officiating.
Mr. Tracey served in the Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1943.
Mr. Tracey was a member and past trustee of St. James Church, a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1762, Carthage, American Legion Post 789, Carthage, past president and life member of Carthage Lions Club, past trustee of Village of Carthage, and a former member of Carlowden Country Club and Northern New York Transportation Club.
Surviving besides his wife are two daughters and their husbands, Jean Marie and Patrick Viglucci, Delmar, and Mary Ann and James Yuhas, Carthage; a son and his wife, William and Cecelia, Alpharetta, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Kimberly Tracey, Delmar; seven grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Thomas, who died April 5, and a sister, Josephine Davis, died before him.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 327 West St., with the Rev. John J. Cosmic officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home.
