HERMON — Janet M. Shatraw, 74, of 126 Canton St., died Saturday at the home of her son, Randy, in Massena.
Mrs. Shatraw was an index clerk at the St. Lawrence County Clerk's Office until her retirement. She had been a teacher's aide at Hermon-DeKalb Central School, DeKalb Junction.
Born July 5, 1933, in Pyrites, a daughter of George and Frances Waldo Bice, she graduated from Hermon Central School.
She married Clifton W. Shatraw on Dec. 22, 1951, at the Gouverneur Methodist Church parsonage. Mr. Shatraw died Jan. 6, 2000.
Mrs. Shatraw was a member and past president of DeKalb-Hermon Senior Citizen Club, a member of Hermon Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary, SLC Home Bureau, TOPPS Chapter 638, Hermon, and SLC Senior Citizen Council.
She received the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award in 2002 and 2007, was named past Queen of the county council, and she and her husband had been king and queen for a year of the council. She was treasurer of the New York Statewide Senior Action Council, North Country Chapter, and a member of various county and state senior citizen organizations. She received numerous awards and enjoyed traveling, cooking, sitting on her porch and senior clubs.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Randy and Barbara, Massena; and Brett and Cori, Hermon; two brothers and their wives, Garry and Juanita Bice, Paducah, Ky., and the Rev. Norman and Joyce Bice, DePeyster; four sisters and their husbands, Cheryl and Gary Madlin, Red Mills, Sandra and Bryon Tynan, Pittsfield, Mass., Sonja and Donald Wolfe, Jacksonville, N.C., and Nancy and Allen Bell, Heuvelton; three grandchildren, a great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, George "Gig" Bice, and two sisters, Lillian Masters and Maxine Davis, died before her.
The funeral will be at noon Wednesday at Allen-Denesha Funeral Home, DeKalb Junction. Burial will be in Hermon Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
