WOODVILLE — Veva M. Gallagher, 90, formerly of Allard Road, died Thursday morning at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay.
Mrs. Gallagher moved to the Woodville area in the 1950s and operated the Hillside Diner on Route 3 in the town of Ellisburg. She and her family also ran a food concession stand at the Oswego County Fair in Sandy Creek for 21 years. She moved to Rochester in 1975 and a year ago moved to Redwood.
Born May 26, 1918, in Fulton, daughter of Arthur and Lola Lamphear Bickford, she attended school in the Fulton area.
She married Phillip Gorton. He died Sept. 11, 1949. She married James F. Race on Oct. 24, 1953. He died May 27, 1960. She married Carroll E. Gallagher on May 22, 1971. He died Jan. 17, 1982.
Mrs. Gallagher was a member of the Sandy Creek-Lacona Grange and a former member of the Woodville Congregational Church. She enjoyed crocheting and her large collection of salt and pepper shakers.
Surviving are six sons, Thomas Gorton, Jerry Gorton and John Gorton, all of Florida, David Race, of Piffard, Daniel Race, Henderson, and Donald Race, Redwood; six daughters, Patricia DeVelder, Florida, Linda Gorton, Cheryl Steier and Marie LaRue, all of Redwood, Lillian Breemes, LeRoy, and Sue Hayes, Caledonia; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Gorton, LeRoy; a brother, James Bickford, Fulton; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Beatrice Smith and June Rose, both of Oswego, and Ellen Hawley and Kay and Edward Coe, all of Fulton, 25 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
A son, William Gorton, a daughter, Phyllis Gorton Wilt, a sister, Arlene VanAlstyne, two brothers, Lee and Dean Bickford, and a grandson died before her.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.
Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Fairdale Cemetery, Hannibal.
Donations may be made to River Hospital, Alexandria Bay, for the activities fund or adult day care program.
