SANDY CREEK — Charles H. Taylor, 86, County Route 15, Sandy Pond, formerly of Oswego, died Wednesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Syracuse.

He was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement.

Born Feb. 12, 1922, in Oswego, son of Charles and Carolyn James Taylor, he attended school in Oswego and served in the Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946.

He married Norma L. Gurnsey on Oct. 21, 1942, in Oswego. The couple lived in Oswego until moving to Sandy Pond in 1976. He was a member of Oswego Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2320.

Surviving besides his wife are a daughter and her husband, Georgeann and Victor Ayers, Cleveland; 11 sons and nine daughters-in-law, Charles, Alberta, Canada, Kenneth, John and Sue and Norman and Elizabeth, all of Sandy Pond, Floyd and Karen, Hannibal, Daniel and Kim, Oswego, James and Betty, Kentucky, Michael and Cindy, Illinois, William and Linda, Montana, Gene and Linda, West Monroe, and Timothy and Terry, Maryland, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A brother and two sisters died before him.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Spirit of Life Tabernacle Church, 2157 County Route 48, Lacona, with the Revs. Michael Carkey and Sonny and Melody Rudd officiating. Burial will be private.

There are no calling hours. Arrangements are with Summerville Funeral Home.
