DEER RIVER — The funeral for Barbara A. Meister, 70, formerly of Roberts Road, will be private. Burial in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Croghan, also will be private.

Mrs. Meister died Tuesday at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Frank Geno, Watertown, after a battle with cancer.

Arrangements are with Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.

Born March 7, 1938, in Carthage, daughter of Ernest G. and Catherine M. Barrington Pierre, she graduated in 1956 from Augustinian Academy, Carthage, and worked in the dental office of Dr. John Trowbridge from 1956 to 1964.

She married John C. Meister on June 20, 1964, at St. James Church with the Rev. Francis X. Campbell officiating. They made their home on the Meister family farm on Roberts Road in the town of Denmark, where they worked the land together for 37 years until Mr. Meister's death Dec. 29, 2001.

Mrs. Meister continued to live on the farm until her recent illness, when she went to live with her sister and brother-in-law.

She enjoyed collecting ceramic cats, dogs and especially cows; puzzle and word-search books, shopping, milking cows, farm chores and especially mowing her lawn on her prized John Deere lawn tractor.

Surviving besides her sister and brother-in-law are a brother, Bradley Pierre, Nevada, several nieces and nephews and a cousin.

A brother, George B. Pierre, died Sept. 22, 1997.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
