CANTON — The funeral for Mary L. Barr, 84, Canton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at O'Leary Funeral Home with the Rev. James M. Brand officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Plains Cemetery, Pierrepont.
Mrs. Barr died Wednesday at her home.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 10 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Barr and her husband, Dennis Conley "Connie" Barr, owned and operated Barr's Restaurant, also known as Connie's, at 6 Miner St.
Born April 12, 1924, in Canton, daughter of Azel and Lulu Yette Perry, she graduated in 1942 from Canton High School and in 1946 from St. Lawrence University with a bachelor of science degree in pre-med.
She married Mr. Barr on May 31, 1946, at St. Mary's Cathedral rectory, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. F. Gordon Coseo officiating.
After Mr. Barr's death Dec. 27, 1980, Mrs. Barr continued to run the restaurant until retiring in 1998. After retiring from the restaurant, she continued to be active and was currently managing her rental properties.
Mrs. Barr was very supportive of community organizations and local sports and enjoyed preparing food, especially chili.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Mary Singleton Barr and Reginald Sapp, Canton; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Steven C. and Claudia, Orlando, Fla., Dennis C. Jr. and Lillie, and M. Shane, all of Canton, and W. Bradford and Amy, Baldwinsville, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Florence Perry Gushea and Winifred Perry Rivers, died before her.
