NORTH LAWRENCE — The funeral for Ralph R. Roach, 80, North Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Lawrence Church with the Rev. Donald J. Manfred officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at noon at Knights of Columbus, Brasher Falls.
Mr. Roach died Monday evening at Massena Memorial Hospital.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hammill Funeral Home, Winthrop.
Mr. Roach worked at the Aluminum Company of America in Massena for 25 years, retiring in 1975.
Born July 2, 1927, in North Lawrence, son of William and Bernice Durgan Roach, he graduated from North Lawrence High School.
Mr. Roach entered the Navy and served during World War II. Mr. Roach trained to be a fireman and received the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Medal before being honorably discharged as fireman first class.
He married Irene D. Brais on July 9, 1949, at St. Mary's Church, Massena, with the Rev. Earl W. Nichols officiating. She died Dec. 25, 2001.
Mr. Roach was a 56-year member of the North Lawrence Volunteer Fire Department and was a regular participant at the Monday night card games. He also was a member of the North Lawrence Veterans of Foreign Wars, Quad Town Senior Citizens and the Alcoa 25-Year Club.
He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his dog.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandy and Francis Carvel and Carol Burnett, and her companion, Charles Hubbard, all of Massena; a son, Robert, Indian Lake; his companion, Helen Chambers, North Lawrence, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Harold and Carl, and two sisters, Margaret and Marjorie Roach, died before him.
