LOWVILLE — A memorial gathering for Alan Grant Ransiear, 59, Clermont, Fla., formerly of Lowville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Community Church, town of Watson, ending with a military salute at 2 p.m.

Mr. Ransiear drowned May 31 in Little Lake Harris, Fla.

A gathering was held June 7 at Becker Funeral Home, Clermont.

Burial is in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

Local arrangements are with Sundquist Funeral Home.

He was a machinist for Pratt & Whitney, Hartford, Conn., and also worked for Firestone in New England in fleet tire service.

He built docks and seawalls on lakes in and around Clermont and also offered a tree-trimming service. In recent years, he was an equipment maintenance mechanic for orange grove equipment.

Born Sept. 16, 1948, in Lowville, son of Charles L. and Ethel E. Greene Ransiear, he graduated in 1966 from Lowville Academy and Central School and served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

A marriage to Carol Traxel ended in divorce.

Mr. Ransiear was a lifelong fan of NASCAR and other types of racing. He enjoyed helping his friends and caring for stray animals.

Surviving are a son, Charles A., Stanhope, N.J.; a brother and his wife, Bryan L. and Denise, Fulton; a sister and her husband, Donna and John Kozick, Glenfield, two nephews and a niece.

An infant son, Todd M., died Oct. 18, 1972.
