Robert L. Barr

CANTON — Robert L. Barr, 89, Cocoa Beach, Fla., formerly of Canton and Cranberry Lake, died Sunday at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Cocoa Beach.

Mr. Barr owned and operated Barr Pharmacy until 1978.

Born Sept. 14, 1918, in Gouverneur, son of Roy M. and Grace E. Laidlaw Barr, he graduated from Canton High School and from the University of Buffalo College of Pharmacy in 1939.

Mr. Barr served in World War II in the Pacific theater and was discharged in 1945.

He married Patricia A. MacKenzie on June 15, 1946, at her home with the Rev. Walter P. Doty, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, officiating. The couple lived on Pleasant Street. Mrs. Barr died June 9, 1996.

Mr. Barr was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of Canton VFW. He enjoyed reading and loved to tinker with electrical and mechanical items. He also enjoyed woodworking and building things and was fascinated with cars, planes, boats and trains. He took pleasure in spending time at his cottage on Cranberry Lake.

Surviving are a son, David, Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Kathryn Barr Raymo, Cranberry Lake; a brother, Richard, Provincetown, Mass., and two granddaughters.

A private service will be at a later date at Cranberry Lake. Arrangements are with Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, Cocoa Beach. Donations may be made to Cranberry Lake Fire Department, Cranberry Lake, N.Y. 12927, or Clifton-Fine Hospital, 1014 Oswegatchie Trail, Star Lake, N.Y. 13690.
