LOWVILLE — Emmanuel J. "Mannie" Dufault, 87, Hummingbird Lane, died Tuesday morning at his home, where he was under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
Mr. Dufault was a chemist in the food industry, working for Canada Packers, Toronto, Ontario, and was granted four patents in that industry. He also worked for Pfaudler Inc. and retired in 1983 from Sybron Corp., both in Rochester.
Born Sept. 30, 1920, in Windsor, Ontario, son of Alexandar and Anne Thorpe Dufault, he graduated from Assumption University, Windsor, and did postgraduate work at the University of Toronto.
He married Denise LaPorte on May 11, 1946, in Montreal, Quebec.
During the 1960s, the couple lived in Rochester. They later moved to Lowville.
Mr. Dufault enjoyed traveling throughout the world, reading and playing chess and golf. He was a communicant and Eucharistic minister of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Glenfield, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, the National Rendering Association and the Institute of Food Technologies.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons and their wives, Paul and Dorothy, Fairport, and Marc and Terri, Kissimmee, Fla.; three daughters and their husbands, Carol and Peter van der Voort, Ottawa, Ontario, Michele and John McIsaac, Toronto, and Lynn and Jonathan Thisse, Glenfield; a brother, Kenneth, Windsor, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Timothy J. Soucy, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sundquist Funeral Home.
