CANASTOTA — Suzy Fazekas went 3-for-3 with a home run, but it wasn't enough as South Lewis fell to Afton, 12-2, in the Bronze Division finals at the Canastota Softball Tournament on Sunday.
Steph Sherman was 3-for-4 for Afton (11-2), ranked third in the state in Class D.
The Falcons (8-8) advanced to the finals with 6-5 win over Jamesville-DeWitt. Heather McManus finished 3-for-4 with a triple and drove in a run, and Lindsay Paluck was 2-for-3 for South Lewis.
COMETS TAKE THIRD
Sandy Creek lost to Binghamton Seton Catholic 5-1 in the Gold Division semifinals at Canastota, then beat Carle Place 2-0 for third place.
Tayler Fravel went 2-for-3, and Lyndsay Rowell had a double for the Comets (14-1) , who committed five errors in the semifinals. Seventh-grader Chelsea Claflin allowed just four hits.
Rowell hurled a one-hitter against Carle Place, striking out eight. Chelsea Crump supplied a RBI single for Sandy Creek, and Claflin squeezed home another run.
ALEXANDRIA SPLITS TWO
Alexandria fell to Albany Bishop Maginn 5-3, then came back to defeat New York Mills 6-2 at the Mudville Tournament in Herkimer.
Tiffany Lingenfelter had a double and Katie Fountain a triple for the Purple Ghosts (4-7) against Maginn.
Cassie Lingenfelter tossed a two-hitter and singled and tripled for the Purple Ghosts against New York Mills.
BASEBALL
WARRIORS FALL IN FINAL
Indian River banged out 29 hits in two games Saturday at the Camden Tournament, beating Oriskany 14-7 in the semifinals then losing 20-12 to host Camden in the title game.
Sean Iles contributed two triples and drove in three runs for Indian River (10-5) versus Oriskany. Tyler Brown added three hits and two RBIs, while Brandon Cavalet, Jordan Hunneyman, Zane Fish, Jarrod Mattingly and Spencer Busler finished with two hits apiece.
Against Camden, Busler had three more hits, and Mike Bombard, Mattingly and Cavalet two each.
Camden scored nine runs in the first inning and finished with 19 hits.
